A Guide to Medical Alerts Issues

Answers to Common Questions about Medical Alert Devices

While determining if a Medical Alert is right for you or someone in your care, there are likely a number of questions that arise during your exploration of products and services. Medical Alerts help in providing safety for those they serve and peace of mind for caregivers or family members, but taking into measure capabilities and quality of service is not always easy. Our guide to some of the most common questions and concerns regarding Medical Alerts can help you make an informed choice with your purchase.

QUESTION: When your Medical Alerts are pressed, does somebody from your company come out or do you just call the local emergency agency and they send an ambulance or paramedics?

In the steps to protect our customer's safety, we call through a list of approved responders upon receiving notice from one of our Medical Alert Devices. If no communication is established either through a speaker or phone call with a customer, 911 and emergency medical responders will be dispatched within minutes of receiving a notice from the Medical Alerts. Our personnel will keep in contact with a customer, caregivers and emergency medical teams throughout the entire call – and they will not hang up until the situation is resolved completely. While we do not send any personnel to the scene, we offer all available medical information to first responders and keep in touch with caregivers throughout the entire process to ensure every party is fully informed.

QUESTION: A family member or client is hard of hearing. Can your service insure that an operator can be heard and interact clearly with a customer during an emergency?

We have several years of experience in interacting with customers who have difficulty hearing. The Medical Alert System was developed with this disability in mind. As soon as we receive notice from the Medical Alert Device, the customer's personal medical history is displayed for our operators – including any hearing difficulties. A caregiver or close neighbor authorized by the service is contacted immediately. If no response comes from the customer, emergency medical assistance is also immediately contacted. All of this happens in minutes, regardless of the ability of the customer to interact with an operator, to insure the quickest and best possible outcome.

QUESTION: What is the response time for a medical emergency with your Medical Alerts? How quickly can medical aid be sent in the event of a critical medical event, such as a heart attack?

As soon as one of our Medical Alert Devices is pressed, our operators move into action and quickly engage in an Emergency Care Plan. This can mean a medical emergency team could be dispatched within minutes of the initial contact. Our Medical Alerts will not only keep help within reach for non-critical medical emergencies such as falls, but shave crucial minutes off response times in critical medical emergencies such as heart attacks and strokes.
